As well as covering the core aspects of good application technique, top tips and do’s and don’ts there was also an interactive section which looked in depth at two of the most common questions on legal application forms. The takeaway from this session was that the application is the most important interaction with a potential employer and also the hardest to get right so it is important to spend time making it the best it can possibly be.
Law Freshers Mixer
This is usually one of the first events held by the Law Society of the year. This year it took place at Revolution Bar in Southampton. This is a fun, social event which gives new members to socialise with current members and get to know the society. It is also a great way to get everyone together at the start of the year, after a long summer apart. We like to use this event as a way of re-connecting the society, ready for the next year ahead and it is the perfect way for members to have a catch up.

Law Society and Bar Society Tropical Boat Ball
Every year the Law Society and the Bar Society jointly run a fantastic boat ball at the end of Semester 2. This is a fun social event to give members the opportunity to celebrate the end of their exams and to socialise with everyone before the end of the university term. It is also a great chance for the two societies to come together and for everyone to get dressed up (there's usually a theme!). The party takes place on a boat and we also hire a DJ, photographer and photo mirror to make the night even more spectacular. This is always one of the members favourite events of the year.

This year we were grateful to speak with representatives from Freshfields, Clifford Chance, and Womble Bond Dickinson who informed us on the steps their Firms are taking to ensure there is diversity and inclusion within the workplace. This was also a great opportunity for our members to ask any questions they had about D&I.
An evening at ‘Winter in Hollywood’ saw the Law Society join up with Bar Society to close out the first semester with a red carpet. The night included a three-course meal, the prestigious Law Awards (As voted for by Members of both Societies) and a raffle. The whole event was enjoyed by all who attended and luckily well documented too by professional photographers and a photo booth.
