Greetings all, and welcome to the University of Southampton Law Society! 

 

I am truly both privileged and honoured to be serving as President of USLS for the upcoming academic year. I am currently a third-year law student and I wish to pursue a career within commercial law; my interests lying in IP, patents and trademarks, real estate, FinTech, and climate change legislation and compliance.

 

My aims as President centre around growing our society by offering diverse opportunities for our members via hosting diverse career and networking opportunities, as well as firm-specific application workshops, ergo providing our members exclusive access to the legal sector. We also would like to foster friendships and connections within our society itself, through our various social and sporting events. Overall, we aim to foster a supportive network of students as we navigate our degrees, and hefty application seasons!

Established over ten years ago, the society was originally a method of ensuring the welfare of law students at Southampton Law School. Today, we are working to provide members of our society with exclusive opportunities to connect with peers and and various members of the legal industry, and provide a diverse range of legal opportunities for all students at the University of Southampton, whether they read law, or not!

The society is proud to partner with national and international law firms to provide careers opportunities, offering application guidance and providing members with a chance to meet with firms at our inclusive networking sessions. Our hope is that members will make connections with employers, further opening doors to their choice of future careers. 

​

We recognise that studying at university is an exciting yet challenging experience, which is why we intend to host variety of events to provide members with opportunities to meet fellow students across year groups, relax, and celebrate achievements at our popular socials and quiz nights throughout the academic year. We aim to balance this proactively with professional and networking events hosted in collaboration with our sponsors in the form of Q&A sessions, firm dinners, and various competitions. We are further open to all contact from any firms looking to collaborate!

At USLS, we feel it is crucial that all students are given the chance to develop skills that will be of great importance to their careers. Our popular Negotiation Competition encourages students to develop necessary skills for any future career path, ending with a grand final where the winning team are offered prizes by the sponsoring firm.

This year, we are hoping to host more events, during which students can get to know not only each other, but professionals within the legal industry also. This way, we hope that members will be able to establish both lifelong connections and friendships.
